What to expect from a Human Givens therapist

What a Human Givens Therapist will do for you:

  • help you feel better after every session.

  • quickly help with anxiety problems and teach you to relax deeply.

  • quickly help with trauma (PTSD) or fear-related symptoms.

  • not use jargon or 'psychobabble,' or tell you that counselling or psychotherapy has to be 'painful' to be effective.

  • not dwell unduly on the past, and help you design a more desired future.

  • be supportive when difficult feelings emerge, but will not encourage you to get emotional beyond the normal need to 'let go' of any bottled up feelings.

  • may assist you to develop your social skills so that your needs for affection, friendship, fun, intimacy, connection to the wider community etc. can be better fulfilled.

  • help you to draw upon and build on your own resources (which may prove greater than you thought).

  • be considerate of the effects of counselling on the people close to you.

  • help you think about your problems in new and more empowering ways.

  • use a wide range of techniques as appropriate.

  • may ask you to do things between sessions to enhance your therapy journey.

  • take as few sessions as possible.
